Overview
A relatively new facility, the Krotz Springs plant was built between 1979 and 1982 and had additional construction in the late 1980s and 1990s. We acquired this refinery, as well as facilities in Texas City and Houston, when we purchased Basis Petroleum from Salomon Inc. in 1997. With its access to upriver markets on the Mississippi River, the refinery has a distinct logistical advantage over other Gulf Coast plants.

Output
A medium-sized yet efficient facility, the Krotz Springs refinery produces a variety of petroleum products. Primary units include:

  • 83,000-BPD crude distillation unit
  • 34,000-BPD fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit
  • 13,000-BPD reformer unit
  • 6,600-BPD polymerization unit
  • 4,000-BPD isomerization unit

Location/Access
The Krotz Springs refinery is located approximately halfway between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, Louisiana, on the Atchafalaya River. It is positioned on the Colonial pipeline for convenient product transportation to markets in the Southeast and Northeast. The refinery can ship products by barge, pipeline, truck and rail.
