Overview
Since acquiring the Memphis, Tennessee, refinery in 2005, Valero has invested more than $245 million, upgrading it to a modern and highly efficient facility. Products are distributed primarily to the local Memphis market and secondarily to the Nashville, Tennessee, market. Crude oil is supplied to the refinery via the Capline Pipeline and can also be transported, along with other feedstocks via barge. Products are distributed primarily via truck-loading racks at our three product terminals, barges, and a pipeline directly to the Memphis airport.

Output
Nearly 100 percent of the Memphis refinery’s production is light products, including regular and premium gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and petrochemicals. Major refinery units include:

  • 190,000-BPD crude unit
  • 68,000-BPD fluid catalytic cracking unit
  • 36,000-BPD catalytic reformer

Location/Access
The Memphis refinery is located along the Mississippi River’s Lake McKellar, which enables it to serve many upriver markets at a significant cost advantage. It also has an extensive logistics system, including access to a crude oil pipeline, a jet fuel pipeline, a large truck rack and a dock adjacent to the plant.
