Overview
At Valero, we’re committed to leading the industry in environmentally friendly energy solutions, and our Wilmington refinery is a prime example. This refinery is unique in that it is one of the few refineries capable of producing 100 percent CARB gasoline. Refined products are distributed from the Wilmington refinery through a network of third-party pipelines and terminals in southern California, Nevada and Arizona, and then on to our wholesale and retail customers. The refinery also has 2.7 million barrels of onsite storage capacity and 1.6 million barrels of offsite storage.

Output
The Wilmington refinery processes a blend of California and foreign crude oil, as well as unfinished feedstocks from local and foreign sources. Given its coking and desulfurizing capabilities, it is particularly well-suited to process lower cost heavy, high-sulfur crude oils and feedstocks. The refinery also produces 15 percent of the asphalt supply in southern California. Major units at the refinery include:
  • 38,500-BPD crude unit one
  • 38,500-BPD crude unit two
  • 30,000-BPD naphtha hydrotreater
  • 64,000-BPD gas oil hydrotreater
  • 54,000-BPD fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit
Location/Access
The Wilmington plant, which is near Los Angeles, is connected by pipeline to marine terminals and associated dock facilities that can be utilized for movement and storage of crude oil and other feedstocks. The refinery also operates a refined product marine terminal and dock facility, which is leased from the Port of Los Angeles and City of Los Angeles.
