The Valero Alamo Bowl showcases two of the premier conferences in the country, the Big 12 and the Pac-12. The bowl quickly has become one of the most popular bowls in the country, producing some of the most-watched bowl games in ESPN history while selling out four of the last six years.

Valero Supports College Football at its Best

Over the past 19 years, the Valero Alamo Bowl has hosted 19 bowl games and three Big 12 Football Championship games in the Alamodome in San Antonio. These 22 games have attracted more than 1.3 million spectators with more than 50 percent being out-of-town visitors, generating a direct economic impact in excess of $360 million, contributing nearly $69 million to higher education and distributing $888,000 in local scholarship funds. The games have been watched by more than 150 million national television viewers on ESPN and ABC. The 2012 game is set for Saturday, Dec. 29, at 5:45 p.m. CST.

2011 Highlights
  • The 2011 game between Baylor and Washington brought the game's first reigning Heisman Trophy winner to town in Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III. The teams smashed the record books in a historic scoring spree, with Baylor prevailing 67-56 before 65,256 fans, fifth-highest attendance in the bowl's history.
  • Baylor jumped out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter, with Griffin surpassing 4,000 yards passing for the season during the first possession. But Washington stormed back to take a 35-24 halftime lead, behind the passing of Keith Price, who would total 438 yards passing for the game.
  • The Bears overcame an 18-point deficit in the second half to rally for the win. Overall, there were five lead changes and two ties during the game.
  • The Bears and Huskies broke the combined total offense record of any bowl game in BCS history with 1,397 yards, the all-time bowl record for combined points in regulation with 123, and the NCAA-bowl record for total touchdowns with 17. Baylor set a Valero Alamo Bowl record with 777 total yards of offense and 33 first downs; Washington ended with 620 yards and 26 first downs. Price's seven total touchdowns (four passing, three rushing) also set a Valero Alamo Bowl record.
