winning purse from Valero Executive Vice President of
Marketing and Supply Joe Gorder, left. With this win, Leonard
earned the title as three-time Valero Texas Open champion.

The 2008 Valero Texas Open, one of the most historic tournaments on the PGA TOUR,  will be held again this year at the award-winning Westin La Cantera Resort during the week of Oct. 6-12. The associated Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic will be held Oct. 12-13.

With tremendous support from Valero’s business partners, the 2007 Valero Texas Open was the most successful in the tournament’s 86-year history.  Together with the Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic, the Valero Texas Open contributed a record total of $8 million to charity – a $1 million increase over 2006!

With this record-breaking donation, the Valero Texas Open was ranked #1 of all events on the PGA TOUR in terms of charitable giving -- for the second consecutive year! Counting the 2007 contribution, the tournament has surpassed $33 million in contributions.

During the 2007 Benefit for Children Golf Classic Welcome Dinner, newly crowned Valero Texas Open champion Justin Leonard thanked Valero and its business partners for the record-breaking charitable event and an outstanding Valero Texas Open.

The featured speaker for the 2007 Benefit for Children Golf Classic Welcome Dinner was golf writer and CBS golf commentator David Feherty. The former European Tour and PGA Tour player has been dubbed "Golf's Ultimate Wise Guy" and earned the title of Favorite Golf Announcer by Golf Digest Magazine in 2007.

On  Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, the Benefit for Children golf tournament was played with morning and afternoon golf outings on nine different golf courses, followed by awards receptions.

About the Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic
The Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic, a project of the Valero Energy Foundation, raises money for children’s charities in the communities where Valero has major operations.  The beneficiaries are nominated by Valero employees, and an all-employee committee evaluates the charities and makes the final selection of agencies which they believe will provide the most benefits to disadvantaged or disabled children.  Each agency is also required to demonstrate that the funds will be used for specific programs targeted to children.
