Over the past 15 years, the Valero Alamo Bowl has hosted 15 bowl games and three Big 12 Football Championship games in the Alamodome in San Antonio. These 18 games have attracted 1,075,753 spectators with more than 50 percent being out-of-town visitors. The event raised nearly $48.3 million for higher education, distributed $362,000 in local scholarship funds and was viewed by 115 million national television viewers on ESPN and ABC.

2008 Highlights
  • The 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl was a winner on all counts: a thrilling game that took overtime to decide, a highly visible national television slot usually reserved for NFL “Monday Night Football” and a $3,000 scholarship awarded to 26 of Bexar County’s top graduating high school seniors.
  • In only the second overtime game in the bowl’s history, University of Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel found All-American receiver Jeremy Maclin on a quick 7-yard touchdown pass, sending the Tigers to a come-from-behind 30-23 victory over the Northwestern University Wildcats. The lead changed hands seven times in the back-and-forth battle, with Northwestern dominating early and Missouri closing late.
  • An enthusiastic crowd, announced at 55,986, was on hand, as many more viewers enjoyed the prime-time telecast on ESPN. With the network completing its NFL regular-season "Monday Night Football" telecasts the week before, the Valero Alamo Bowl filled the popular time slot and delivered an entertaining contest between two of the top teams from the Big 12 and Big 10 conferences.
