About the Valero Texas Open
With tremendous support from Valero’s business partners, the 2007 Valero Texas Open was the most successful in the tournament’s 86-year history. Together with the Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic, the Valero Texas Open contributed a record total of $8 million to charity – a $1 million increase over 2006! With this record-breaking donation, the Valero Texas Open is again the top ranked of all events on the PGA TOUR in terms of charitable giving. Counting this year's $8 million contribution, the tournament has surpassed $33 million in contributions since its inception.
The results on the golf course were equally impressive. With his win at the Valero Texas Open, champion Justin Leonard earned the title as three-time Valero Texas Open champion. Following the trophy presentation, Justin was a special guest at the Welcome Dinner for the Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic. Joining him was the featured speaker, golf writer and CBS golf commentator David Feherty. The former European Tour and PGA Tour player has been dubbed "Golf's Ultimate Wise Guy" and earned the title of Favorite Golf Announcer by Golf Digest Magazine in 2007.
Beginning in 2007, the Valero Texas Open had its very own date and was no longer opposite the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup. The 2007 Valero Texas Open featured a strong field of rising young stars, seasoned veterans and top international players. All four rounds of the 2007 Valero Texas Open were broadcast on the Golf Channel, receiving about 10 hours of coverage spread over four days.
The Westin La Cantera Resort, named a Gold Medal winner by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 25 Golf Resorts in the United States for 2004-2005, will host the Valero Texas Open for the 14th consecutive year.
