Hurricane Rita Preparedness

Statement from Mary Rose Brown, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications

San Antonio, TX September 22, 2005

Our 250,000 BPD Port Arthur refinery was reduced to minimum rates earlier this morning. All non-essential employees have been released and the refinery is currently in the process of shutting down.

Our Houston and our Texas City refineries will be completely shut down shortly.

Our Corpus Christi and Three Rivers refineries are operating at slightly reduced rates due to feedstock and product storage issues but it is currently anticipated that these refineries will be able continue to run with skeleton crews in place. Thx.

Capacities:

Corpus Christi - 340,000 BPD

Port Arthur - 250,000 BPD

Texas City - 243,000 BPD

Houston - 135,000 BPD

Three Rivers - 98,000 BPD
