Valero Retail has a stellar new fundraising total for the Children's Miracle Network.
With the help of generous customers and enthusiastic employees, Valero raised an incredible $1,579,822 for CMN -13 percent more than in 2008 and nearly 15 percent more per store. Despite having fewer stores, employees posted gains in nearly every zone. The campaign - which asks customers to purchase CMN paper balloons in support of children's hospitals - began Oct. 10 and ended Nov. 2.
"These kinds of results would not be possible without employees who wake up every day motivated to make a difference," said Gary Arthur, Valero Retail President. "In addition to outstanding financial results for 2009, I am extremely proud of the community engine that exists inside our organization."
Valero's Corner Stores are expected to see another strong year of earnings in 2009. In addition to the division's solid financial performance, community support continues to grow through United Way, CMN and Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) campaigns.
Founded by entertainers Marie Osmond and John Schneider in 1983, the Children's Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising money for children's hospitals. Valero retail stores help children's hospitals in 13 different cities across the country.
In 2008, Valero Retail employees raised $1.3 million, asking customers to give anything they could - $1, $5, spare change - to make a difference in the life of a child. Every cent collected during the campaign goes directly to the CMN-designated hospital in that store's area.
