Volunteers from Valero Energy Corporation teamed up with the San Antonio Food Bank to ensure that scores of needy families have enough to eat during these tough economic times.
The “Stuff the Truck” event coincides with Valero’s celebration of its 30th anniversary as a company. From Valero’s beginnings, the company has been a good corporate citizen and has encouraged its employees to volunteer and get involved in the communities where they live and work.
This marks the seventh time Valero Volunteers have collected food items for a “Valero Stuff the Truck” effort since Valero purchased and donated a refrigerated truck to the Food Bank in 2008. Valero Volunteers added thousands of pounds of donated food to top their previous total of more than 61,500 pounds – well over 30 tons – of food that they have donated so far.
The outreach event is part of Valero’s commitment as San Antonio’s largest publicly traded company and its culture of giving back to communities where Valero does business.
“As double-digit unemployment continues, the need for food continues,” said Valero Chairman and CEO Bill Klesse. “An enormous hunger crisis still exists in our community. With the job market weakness and the recent cold weather, life for many people continues to be very difficult. Valero Volunteers are helping out by restocking the shelves at the Food Bank.”
