The Valero Houston Refinery began operations in 1942 and has gone through numerous revamps and expansions. The refinery is a mid-sized plant with a total throughput capacity of 145,000 barrels per day (BPD) and produces a wide range of petroleum products. Valero acquired the Houston refinery when it purchased Basis Petroleum from Salomon Inc. in 1997. The refinery is located on the Houston Ship Channel, with deep-water access for off-loading feedstocks.

- Products including fuel gas, gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel fuel, sulfur, No. 2 fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs), propylene, vacuum gas oil, No. 6 fuel oil and iso-octene
- Can also produce up to 17,000 BPD of asphalt
- Located on the east side of Houston on approximately 250 acres, with 5,000 feet of ship channel frontage that has a maximum water depth of 40 feet
- Access to major product pipelines, including Colonial, TEPPCO and Explorer
- Additionally, can ship LPG products and asphalt via trucks and rail
- Also owns and operates a total of five marine loading facilities, with four located on the Houston Ship Channel and one located on Sims Bayou
- Employs approximately 310 individuals

- Raised a record $396,000 for United Way Campaign in 2008, with 100 percent employee participation
- Major contributor to new Life Flight facility in the Houston Ship Channel Area
- Contributed $323,000 to 12 Charities from the 2008 Valero Benefit for Children Golf Classic
