Environmental Awards
  • Valero’s St. Charles Refinery in Louisiana earned the 2007 Governor’s Environmental Excellence award in two major categories.
  • Valero’s Memphis Refinery earned the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry Award for Outstanding Environmental Accomplishments three consecutive years – including recognition for hazardous-waste and air-quality management.
  • Valero’s Port Arthur Refinery was named to the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP) for companies reducing chemical emissions.
  • In Texas, Valero was the first petroleum refiner to win the “Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence,” the state’s highest environmental honor.
  • In San Antonio, Valero earned the 2007 Alamo Area Council of Governments’ Environmental Stewardship Award for installing energy-efficient materials and equipment.
Safety Awards
  • Valero earned OSHA's highest plant safety certification, "Star Site" status, in the agency's Voluntary Protection Program for 10 refineries, representing nearly half of the nation’s Star Sites. 
  • The company has been honored for its exemplary rail-car safety record by the CSX, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific and Canadian National railroads.
Business Accolades
  • For the ninth year, Valero ranked among the nation's best employers on Fortune magazine’s listing of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.
  • Valero ranked No. 1 on Fortune magazine's listing of the nation's Best Big Companies to Work For two consecutive years.
  • Valero has ranked No. 5 among petroleum refining companies on Fortune magazine's listing of America’s Most Admired Companies and No. 7 in that same category of Fortune’s Global Most Admired Companies.
  • The company was selected as one of the 2007 10 Best Corporate Citizens in the energy industry by Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine.
  • Convenience Store/Petroleum magazine honored Valero as Outstanding Employer in 2008. The company also was named 2006 Convenience Store Chain of the Year by Convenience Store Decisions magazine.

  • Ultramar Ltd., Valero’s Canadian arm, ranked 33rd on the list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada for 2008 by Hewitt Associates. It ranked as 4th best employer in the province of Quebec.
Community & Philanthropic Awards
Valero knows that being a good operator also means being a good neighbor. The company demonstrates that  through a variety of philanthropic efforts, volunteer activities and educational support programs, including its recent donations to Feed the Children.
