On June 30, 2005, Valero announced plans to retire the approximately 30-year-old Diamond Shamrock brand and convert its 2,900 retail (company-operated) and branded wholesale sites to the Valero brand image. Putting Valero signs up at its sites stretching from South Dakota to South Texas and from Arizona to Arkansas gives us a national brand presence for the first time, since we have long been marketing under the Valero brand name in the Eastern U.S. as well as on the West Coast. This puts us in an excellent strategic position to compete with other nationally recognized brands, which is a critically important step toward achieving our goal of becoming a leader in not only the refining sector, but downstream as well.

Today, Valero is the one of the nation's premier refining and marketing companies. With an extensive, geographically diverse system of 17 refineries and more than 1,000 company-owned and successfully operated retail locations, we know what works right down to the street level.
