Valero now has delivered more than 16,000 fuel cards for COVID-19 relief worth over $450,000, to approximately 140 organizations, including the St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Louisiana and five hospitals in San Antonio as recent examples.

The Valero Meraux Refinery’s leadership team handed out 400 Valero fuel cards worth $20,000 as a special surprise gift to the nearby hospital’s employees, thanking them for working the front lines during the pandemic. Each card included a message reading, “WE ARE WITH YOU” on one side, and some strategic messaging about our company and our products on the other.

“We are so thankful for the support from Valero,” said Kim Keene, CEO of St. Bernard Parish Hospital. “To receive such a generous gesture from Valero’s leadership illustrates the important work our employees are doing at this time. Our doctors, nurses and staff are working tirelessly to care for the St. Bernard Parish community, and this thoughtful gift is much appreciated.”

Over several days in San Antonio, Valero's communications and aviation teams delivered thousands of fuel cards worth $55,000 for COVID-19 essential workers at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-Westover Hills hospital, Methodist Hospital-Main, Northeast Baptist Hospital, Baptist Downtown San Antonio and Methodist Stone Oak Hospital.

The San Antonio hospitals chosen were among those having the most COVID-19 patients, units, and front-line responders and employees in the city. “Valero is a staple to San Antonio," said Pat Burns, president of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa-Westover Hills, adding the hospital is “very appreciative to the fact that Valero gives back to the community anytime they can, as much as they can."

Manny Pelaez, whose San Antonio city council district includes the medical center, attended one of the giveaway events. He lauded front-line workers as “driven by the mission to make sure that they leave people better off than they found them. That's a hero. And that's one of the reasons I admire Valero, too. You guys wake up every single morning to make the world a little better. You not only employ a ton of people, but you give back in the way that you gave back today. And you guys are heroes, too."

Across the globe, the fuel card support is part of aid totaling more than $3 million from Valero, the Valero Energy Foundation and the Valero Energy Foundation of Canada. Fuels cards have gone to organizations ranging from hospitals and first responders to food banks, social agencies and other groups.
