Funding Agencies that Serve Our Communities
The Valero Energy Foundation -- a public charity and Valero's philanthropic arm -- funds nonprofit agencies that serve predominantly disadvantaged children and families.
In 2019, the Foundation contributed appoximately $40 million in assistance in the communities where Valero has major operations.
We Aim to Improve the Quality of Life Through Four Pillars of Support:
1. Basic Needs
Valero gives assistance to agencies that provide basic needs of life, including shelter, food and clothing necessary for the development of a strong and safe community. In 2019, we donated approximately $10 million to organizations such as emergency response services, children’s homes and area food banks.
2. Health Care
We invest in the development of strategic community health resources and facilities that will support the needs of all members of our nearby communities, with major gifts going to children’s hospitals, university medical centers and service providers that offer specialized health care services and programs. We gave more than $11 million in 2019 to facilities that support health resources serving the current and long-term needs within our communities.
3. Education
Valero is a strong advocate of education as it creates a necessary foundation for all children to thrive and for adults to lead productive lives. In 2019, we invested approximately $18 million in public school programs that prepare kids for college, and in STEM education programs and after-school programs, just to name a few.
4. Civic
We support civic and environmental initiatives directly related to the success of the communities where we live and work. In 2019 we donated more than $2 million to support a diversity of conservation programs, city parks and zoos, museums and community safety infrastructure including police, fire and EMS.
Making College Possible
Jennifer Fuentes is the first in her family to go to college. Thanks to a landmark, five-year $8.4 million Foundation grant to the San Antonio Independent School district to provide advisors to work with the student, she now attends Texas Tech University.

Sending Foster Families to Camp
A Valero Energy Foundation donation to Buckner Children and Family Services allowed a number of Texas children and their foster families to attend summer camp.
“People of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds coming together to take care of kids in need. I know the kids in foster care face all kinds of struggles, but this weekend was just about families getting out and having fun.”
Working to Prevent Child Abuse in Our Communities
Valero's support of Child Safe and sponsorship of Cardboard Kids has allowed treatment of hundreds of child abuse victims and helped build their resiliency to lead productive lives with their families and our community.
"Valero’s loyal sponsorship of Cardboard Kids has enabled the campaign's expansion and has had a positive impact on our community. Valero's investment allows ChildSafe to treat abuse survivors; prevent it from happening to other children; and breaks the intergenerational cycle of abuse."

The Valero Texas Open raised a record $22 million for children’s and other charities in 2022. This year's record brings the all-time cumulative total of net proceeds raised to $209 million.
