Overview

The Aurora plant, located on 420 acres about 60 miles north of Sioux Falls and just east of Brookings, produces ethanol, distillers grains livestock feed and fuel- and feed-grade corn oil.  With original startup in November 2003, the plant was acquired by Valero in April 2009.

The plant buys corn directly from local farmers within a 45-mile radius.

Volunteer Hours

Employees and families annually log more than 2,000 volunteer hours, for local charities and events including Harvest Table, Brookings Backpack Project, Aurora Valero 5K & Gala Days, Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program and Aurora Ditch Cleanup.

Benefiting Children

In 2019, the plant distributed $35,000 from the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children to local charities nominated by employees, including Brookings Backpack Project, Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program, Great After-School Place, Project Joy and Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota.

Employee pledges, additional donations and a company match totaled approximately $59,000 in donations to the local United Way for 2019.
