Overview
The Valero Port Arthur Refinery is located on the Texas Gulf Coast approximately 90 miles east of Houston. The refinery receives crude oil by rail, marine docks and pipelines. Products are distributed into pipelines and across the refinery docks into ships and barges.
Adjacent to the Valero Port Arthur Refinery is one of its two renewable diesel plants, which has made Valero the world’s second largest renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer.

Charitable Donations
- $9.9 million in grants for children’s organizations through the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children since 2013.
- Valero and its employees gave more than $2.4 million to the United Way of Mid and South Jefferson County for 2025.
Volunteering Time
- Valero Volunteers are active in supporting the Port Arthur Community by working alongside organizations such as Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Meals on Wheels, Texas Family Care Network, Adaptive Sports for Kids and South East Texas Food Bank.
- In the last 10 years alone, Valero Volunteers have dedicated more than 100,000 hours of service in Port Arthur.
Community Partnerships
- Since 2000, Valero has partnered with Port Arthur Industry Group (PAIG) to provide college scholarships to Port Arthur residents interested in STEM-related careers.
- Since 2018, employees at Valero’s Port Arthur Refinery have hosted the Reel United fishing tournament as a way to raise additional funds for the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County.

Environmentally Responsible Operations
Since Valero’s acquisition of the refinery in 2005, more than $3 billion has been invested in significant environmental projects such a flare gas recovery system, as well as unit additions, including a new hydrocracker, which removes sulfur and adds hydrogen to produce lower carbon fuels and feedstocks.
In 2013, our Port Arthur Refinery became the first industrial site in the U.S. to successfully host a large-scale carbon capture project. And it remains the only U.S. refinery doing so, with more than 1 million tons captured each year from third-party hydrogen plants that produce hydrogen from natural gas.
