Valero Wins Six AFPM Safety Awards and an Innovation Award

Safety is the foundation for success, and Valero employees remain committed to continuously improving our performance year after year. These efforts were recognized as Valero received seven American Fuel & Petroleum Manufacturers (AFPM) safety awards at the annual program recently.
Valero’s Port Arthur and McKee Refineries received the Elite Platinum Safety Award, the second-highest award, recognizing the top sites with outstanding safety performance, program innovation, and safety leadership.
The Elite Gold Award was awarded to the Houston Refinery. This award recognizes facilities with safety performances in the top five percentile and that have demonstrated superior and consistent safety performance program innovation and leadership. Houston is 13 years and counting without an employee lost time injury, and has gone six years without a contractor lost time injury.
The Diamond Green Diesel – New Orleans, Valero St. Charles and Wilmington Refineries all received the Elite Silver Safety Award. This award recognizes facilities with safety performances in the top 10 percentile of industry.
The Three Rivers Refinery was recognized with the IH Innovation Award; one of only three Innovation Awards presented annually to a refinery, petrochemical facility, or midstream operation; for outstanding, forward-thinking initiatives that enhance safety. The refinery earned this distinction for its comprehensive work in identifying, assessing, and controlling potential exposures associated with spray degreasers, and for leveraging those findings to drive meaningful improvements both within the company and across the broader industry.
In addition to these Safety Awards, other sites earned the Safety Achievement Awards for their consistent commitment to safe operations and multiple contract companies that work at our sites received awards.
