Safety Awards

  • Received 15 safety awards from American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) in 2016, including two Elite Silver Safety Awards
  • Most refineries approved as Voluntary Protection Program Star Sites (10), OSHA's highest plant safety designation, after voluntarily submitting to and passing rigorous safety audits
  • Three asphalt terminals with VPP Stars, as well as aviation department
  • Two additional refineries, in Quebec and Wales, approved for internal VPP Star Site designations
  • A Valero Chairman's Safety Award to the Valero Benicia Refinery, which went more than three years and 4 million working hours without an employee injury, a new company record

Environmental Awards

  • Highest-ranked independent refiner on Newsweek magazine's 2017 Green Rankings of the top 500 publicly traded companies for environmental performance
  • Past recipient of Environmental Leadership Program Award from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the Joseph D. Martinez Environmental Achievement Award from Louisiana Air & Waste Management Association, for coker recycling program at Valero St. Charles Refinery
  • Past recipient of Recyc-Quebec Silver Grade-level recognition for the Valero Jean Gaulin Refinery's efforts in recycling, and improved management and reduction of waste generation
  • Past recipient of the Texas Environmental Excellence Award, in the Technical/Technology category, from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, for Valero's wind farm at the McKee refinery
  • Valero Chairman's Environmental Award for 2016 to the Memphis refinery, which reduced reportable events nearly 95 percent over the previous three years

  • Ranked No. 5 in the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings 2016 for outstanding global financial and industry performance

  • Named fourth consecutive time to the Civic 50, a list of America's 50 most community-minded major companies by Points of Light, and the leading company in the energy sector on the list
  • Top award to the Jean Gaulin refinery in the Business and Social Commitment category for large organizations at the 2016 Fideides Awards, presented by the Quebec City Board of Trade and Industry
  • Large Employer of the Year award to Pembroke refinery at the Pembrokeshire College Apprenticeship Awards ceremony, recognizing the refinery's exemplary commitment to training and supporting young people in apprenticeships
  • Healthy Workplace Award: Platinum Recognition, the top-level award from the San Antonio Business Group on Health, in collaboration with the Mayor's Fitness Council
  • In addition, Valero:
    • Generated more than $41 million for worthy charities or causes in 2016 through direct donations or fundraising by the company, its employees and its charitable foundation
    • Pledged $13.4 million to United Way for 2018, from employee pledges and company matches
    • Raised a record $11 million for children's charities from the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children in 2017, among the largest charity events on the PGA Tour
    • Logged more than 148,000 volunteer hours for hundreds of community projects in 2016
