Safety Awards

  • Received five safety awards from American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) in 2017, including an Elite Silver Safety Award to the Valero Wilmington Refinery
  • Most refineries approved as Voluntary Protection Program Star Sites (10), OSHA's highest plant safety designation, after voluntarily submitting to and passing rigorous safety audits
  • Three asphalt terminals with VPP Stars, as well as aviation department
  • Two additional refineries, in Quebec and Wales, approved for internal VPP Star Site designations
  • A Valero Chairman's Safety Award to the Valero St. Charles Refinery, which went two years without an employee recordable injury and posted a three-year contractor injury rate of 0.24 incidents per 200,000 working hours, well below the industry average of 0.6

  • Highest-ranked independent refiner on Newsweek magazine's 2017 Green Rankings of the top 500 publicly traded companies for environmental performance
  • Past recipient of Environmental Leadership Program Award from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the Joseph D. Martinez Environmental Achievement Award from Louisiana Air & Waste Management Association, for coker recycling program at Valero St. Charles Refinery
  • Past recipient of Recyc-Quebec Silver Grade-level recognition for the Valero Jean Gaulin Refinery's efforts in recycling, and improved management and reduction of waste generation
  • Past recipient of the Texas Environmental Excellence Award, in the Technical/Technology category, from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, for Valero's wind farm at the McKee refinery

  • Has been ranked as top independent refiner on Fortune magazine's World's Most Admired Companies list
  • Ranked highest of any U.S. refiner (No. 8) in the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings 2017 for outstanding global financial and industry performance
  • Received Institutional Investor magazine's 2018 All-America Executive Team awards in the integrated oil sector, including Best CEO overall to Joe Gorder; Best CFO (third, sell side) to Mike Ciskowski; Best IR Professional (third, overall; and second, sell side) to John Locke; and Best Investor Relations Program (third, overall; second, sell side)

Corporate Responsibility & Community Accomplishments

  • Named fourth consecutive time to the Civic 50, a list of America's 50 most community-minded major companies by Points of Light, and the leading company in the energy sector on the list
  • Community Partner of the Year for Solano County, California, to the Valero Benicia Refinery from United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay
  • Outstanding Regional Corporate Award from Diabetes Canada in Newfoundland, for Valero's support of a summer camp program for children with Type 1 diabetes
  • First place Corporate Cup from nonprofit San Antonio Sports to Valero headquarters, in large company category, for a series of charitable and athletic events
  • In addition, Valero:
    • Generated more than $54 million for worthy charities or causes in 2017 through direct donations or fundraising by the company, its employees and its charitable foundation
    • Pledged $13.4 million to United Way for 2018, from employee pledges and company matches
    • Raised a record $12 million for children's charities from the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children in 2018, among the largest charity events on the PGA Tour
