Recently, the Ardmore Refinery presented the Oklahoma School for the Deaf (OSD) with a gift of $150,000 to complete several projects that will positively impact students for years to come.

Located in Sulphur, Oklahoma, forty minutes northeast of the refinery, OSD is the only school in the state for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. OSD educates students from infancy to 12th grade and has more than 100 students on campus. Some students live on campus from Sunday through Thursday, while others attend class daily.

There is no cost to families for tuition or programs offered, and OSD has free outreach programs and American Sign Language (ASL) classes online.

When refinery leadership visited the campus for the first time last year, they were impressed by the school, but also surprised at some of the things they saw. For example, the three-time state champions football team had a pasture with goalposts as their football field.

After the tour, Ardmore employees wanted to help OSD, but plans were delayed due to needed repairs as a result of devasting storms and flooding that impacted the entire town.

This March, Ardmore leadership presented OSD with a check to fund several major projects, including a new Special Olympics area, a football field and track, and an outdoor concession area.

Valero is proud to support OSD, and congratulate their students and staff on all their great work.
